Report: Western Digital to continue arbitration on Toshiba spat

Western Digital Corp. is not backing out of its plan to take Toshiba Corp. to arbitration, the Financial Times of London reported May 31, citing a lawyer's letter.

The statement comes just as Japan's Toshiba was previously reported by the FT to have attempted to defuse a legal spat with the U.S.-based chipmaker by providing a legal concession.

Toshiba reportedly offered to keep part of its memory chip unit's assets in-house, a move that Toshiba is hoping will accelerate the planned sale of its memory chip unit and make it difficult for Western Digital to seek exclusive negotiation rights due to its claimed joint venture rights, according to the FT.
