Judge rules against Amazon in in-app purchases case

A federal judge found Amazon.comInc. liable for billing parents for their kids' unauthorized in-apppurchases, Reuters reported April 27.

Judge John Coughenour of the U.S. District Court for the WesternDistrict of Washington on April 26 granted the Federal Trade Commission a summaryjudgment that found the online retail giant responsible for the charges. The judge,however, rejected the FTC's request for an injunction, saying he has not yet decidedon a remedy.

The FTC in July 2014 fileda complaint against Amazon, accusing the online retail giant of billing "parentsand other account holders for millions of dollars in unauthorized in-app chargesincurred by children.
