German annual inflation accelerates in December 2019

Annual harmonized inflation in Germany accelerated to 1.5% in December 2019 from 1.2% in November 2019, provisional data from the country's Federal Statistical Office showed.

On a monthly basis, the harmonized index of consumer prices increased 0.6%.

Nonharmonized consumer price inflation also came in at 1.5%, in line with the consensus estimate of economists polled by Econoday, and rising from 1.1% in the previous month.

The full-year annual harmonized inflation rate for 2019 is estimated to stand at an average of 1.4%.

The European Central Bank aims to maintain inflation rates of "below, but close to, 2%."
