Report: Exxon exploring possible cracker sites near Pittsburgh

Oil major Exxon Mobil Corp. has been looking around Beaver County, Pa., for a site to build a petrochemical plant, the Pittsburgh Business Times reported Oct. 15, citing multiple sources.

Brokers representing Exxon were in the county earlier in October and talked about a possible petrochemical plant to serve its customers, the report said.

A source indicated that Exxon is hoping to secure a location in the region by the end of the year.

Exxon may be looking to build a plant along the same lines as fellow oil major Royal Dutch Shell PLC's polyethylene facility in Potter Township, the report said. However, a source said ethane may not be used as feedstock for the plant.

Beaver County is northwest of Pittsburgh and borders Ohio.
