Report: Amazon spoke to French retailer Leclerc about logistics deal Inc. has spoken to French retailer E. Leclerc SA about a potential logistics deal, Reuters reported Oct. 4.

Michel-Edouard Leclerc, the company's CEO and executive chairman, told Reuters the e-commerce giant has approached his company, adding: "Amazon could — why not? — be our logistics partner."

The statement comes after Reuters reported that Amazon had approached multiple grocery store operators and distributors about potential distribution deals or acquisitions. Among the companies the Seattle-based retailer reached out to was Casino Guichard-Perrachon SA, which reportedly turned Amazon down after it expressed interest in buying Casino's Monoprix supermarket chain, Reuters reported citing French newspaper Le Monde.

The report also comes just over a month after Amazon closed its acquisition of Whole Foods Market Inc. on Aug. 28 in a deal worth $13.7 billion.

In addition to supermarkets and hypermarkets, Leclerc operates specialty shops, including jewelry shops and automobile service centers, according to S&P Capital IQ.
