Oklahoma legislature advances bill to cover autism

The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a bill that wouldrequire insurance companies to cover autism treatment for children younger than9 years old, according to an April 28 report in the Tulsa World.

The bill proposes a benefit cap of $25,000 annually for upto six years, and would include children covered by Medicaid in the state, thenewspaper said. Insurers can cease payment for therapy in the absence ofimprovement and can be exempt from coverage if the benefit results in premiums goingup more than 1%, according to the report.

The House sent the bill to the desk of Gov. Mary Fallin forher signature, the news outlet reported.
