Zurich-Santander alliance gets green light in Chile

Chile's National Economic Supervisor, known as the FNE, has approved a proposed alliance between Zurich Insurance Mobile Solutions AG and Banco Santander Chile that will establish an insurance brokerage firm.

In two separate reports issued by the FNE, the supervisor concluded that the joint venture between the two companies did not represent a threat to competition in the sector.

According to the report by the FNE, which safeguards competition, the joint venture between the two companies "would not generate a concentration in the parties' assets." Even if the two companies were to fully integrate, the supervisor did not perceive a threat to competition in the sector, according to the FNE report.

As such, the venture "does not have the capacity to substantially reduce competition in the markets," according to the report.
