Boeing delays launch of 777-8 jet

Boeing Co. has delayed the launch of the ultra-long-range version of its 777X jet known as the 777-8 into service, Reuters reported.

Boeing spokesman Paul Bergman told Reuters that the company decided to adjust the schedule after reviewing its development program schedule and the needs of the current 777X customers. The spokesperson added that the adjustment reduces risk in the company's development program.

Meanwhile, Boeing and rival Airbus SE have reportedly submitted offers to Australia's Qantas Airways Ltd. for planes for the airline's planned 21-hour nonstop Sydney-London flights. A Qantas spokesperson told the news outlet that the company expects to make a decision by the end of 2019.

In March, Boeing's 737 MAX jets were grounded after fatal crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia. According to Reuters, the company also pushed back the first flight of the 777-9 aircraft to 2020 due to engine issues.
