US unemployment rate declines to 4.2%

U.S. nonfarm payroll employment decreased 33,000 in September, and the unemployment rate declined to 4.2% from 4.4% in the previous month, the Department of Labor said.

Analysts expected an increase of 100,000 jobs in the month, according to a consensus forecast from Econoday. The unemployment rate was expected to remain unchanged at 4.4%.
