'Divorce' gets season 2 premiere date; 'Stranger Things' renewed for 3rd season

On TV

* Time Warner Inc.'s HBO (US) will air the second season of comedy series "Divorce" on Jan. 14, 2018. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as an executive producer, the eight-episode second season follows Frances and Robert as they rebuild their lives independently after separating, HBO said Nov. 30.

* CBS Corp.'s CBS (US) placed a straight-to-series order for new action-adventure series "Blood & Treasure," Variety reported Nov. 30. The series follows an antiquities expert and an art thief who team up to catch a terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure. The first season will premiere in summer 2019 with 13 episodes.

* GlobalTV.com and Global Go will premiere the second season of original drama "Mary Kills People" on Jan. 1, 2018, ahead of the series premiere on Global (US) on Jan. 3, 2018. The six-episode series stars Caroline Dhavernas, Jay Ryan, and Richard Short, and season guest stars Rachelle Lefevre and Ian Lake, according to a Nov. 30 news release.

"Kids Baking Championship"

* Food Network (US) will premiere a new season of "Kids Baking Championship" on Jan. 1, 2018. The new season, featuring 10 episodes, will show kid contestants tackling new confectionery challenges, the network said Nov. 29.

* CBS placed an order for eight additional episodes of "Elementary" ahead of its sixth season premiere, Variety reported Nov. 29. The new season, featuring 21 episodes, will premiere midseason.

* Showtime (US) picked up comedy series "SMILF" for a second season, Broadcasting & Cable reported Nov. 29, citing network officials. The series, created by and starring Frankie Shaw, will return for a second season in 2018.

* The first season of FOX (US) sci-fi comedy series "Ghosted" will feature 16 episodes, Variety reported Nov. 29. The series stars Craig Robinson and Adam Scott as a former Los Angeles Police Department detective and a genius true believer in the paranormal who are recruited by a secret government agency known as The Bureau Underground.

* Viacom Inc.'s BET Networks green-lighted "The Quad" series for a second season. The new season will premiere Jan. 23, 2018, on BET (US), the company said Nov. 28.

"Better Late Than Never"

* Comcast Corp.'s NBC (US) will air the second season of "Better Late Than Never" series Jan. 1, 2018. NBC will run a special preview episode Dec. 11 ahead of the two-hour season two premiere on Jan. 1, 2018, the network said Nov. 28.

* NBC inked a multiyear deal to buy rights to broadcast the "Billboard Music Awards." The date for the 2018 telecast will be announced later, NBC said Nov. 28. The "Billboard Music Awards" is produced by dick clark productions.

* MTV (US) placed an order for a new installment of the "Jersey Shore" series, Deadline.com reported Nov. 27. Set to premiere in 2018, "Jersey Shore Family Vacation" will feature most of the original cast from the hit series.

* CBS has decided to cancel drama series "Wisdom of the Crowd" amid sexual harassment allegations against series star Jeremy Piven, Broadcasting & Cable reported Nov. 27, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. CBS will broadcast unaired episodes but will not order new episodes.

* In more CBS news, the network ordered full-season of its sophomore comedies "Man with a Plan" and "Superior Donuts," Broadcasting & Cable reported Nov. 27. Both series are produced by CBS Television Studios.

* 21st Century Fox Inc.-owned FOX's new six-episode competition series "The Four: Battle For Stardom" will premiere Jan. 4, 2018, for six episodes, Broadcasting & Cable reported Nov. 27. Pop star Fergie will host the series.

"Jersey Shore Family Vacation"

* Amazon.com Inc. picked up 15 films from the 2017 Sundance Film Festival for its Prime Video service. The selected titles include historic genocide movie "500 Years," "Axolotl Overkill," "Don't Swallow My Heart, Alligator Girl!" "Family Life," "Machines," "Manifesto" and "Plastic China," the company said Dec. 1.

* Netflix Inc. renewed "Stranger Things" for a third season Variety reported Dec. 1. The series is based in the fictional town of Hawkins, Ind., where a secret government lab accidentally opens a door to another dimension referred to as the Upside Down.

* Netflix also renewed crime drama series "Mindhunter" for a second season, the company said Nov. 30. Set in the 1970s, the series explores the early days of criminal psychology and profiling.

* Amazon.com will premiere original drama series "The Last Post" on Dec. 22, Multichannel News reported Nov. 27, citing a company statement. The series, which revolves around the lives of a unit of Royal Military Police officers and their families during the social and political unrest of the mid-sixties, will feature six episodes.

* Netflix said Nov. 27 that "Love Per Square Foot," a romantic comedy from India, will be released in early 2018. The film is produced by RSVP, run by Bollywood veteran Ronnie Screwvala. It is also co-produced by Still and Still Pictures. "Love Per Square Foot" revolves around a couple who married for convenience to buy a flat in Mumbai.

* Netflix will premiere its first Colombian original series exclusively in 2019. The eight-episode series, which will be shot in 4K, will follow a young detective and her partner deep into the Amazon as they investigate a series of bizarre murders, the company said Nov. 22. Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2018.
