Report: Google working on Snapchat-style media content

Google Inc. is working on technology that will allow publishers to make media content similar to Snap Inc.-owned Snapchat's Discover, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The Alphabet Inc.-owned unit is in talks with various publishers, including Time Warner Inc.'s CNN (US), Time Inc., and the Washington Post, about participating in the project, dubbed "Stamp," which could be announced as early as the week of Aug. 7.

The project is called Stamp, with the "St" standing for stories and the "amp" because the service will be built around Google's amp mobile web pages that load quicker than regular web pages, according to the Aug. 4 report.

The product will be linked to Google's search platform, providing the publishers with the built-in audience. The Stamp stories reportedly may also be surfaced in Google search results or in other Google products, according to the sources.
