Apple to manufacture Mac Pro in Texas

Apple Inc.'s new Mac Pro will be manufactured in Austin, Texas.

The latest generation Mac Pro will include parts designed, developed and manufactured by over a dozen American companies, Apple said Sept. 23. Advanced technology for the Mac Pro will be provided by manufacturers and suppliers across Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Vermont.

The new Mac Pro will soon begin production at the same Austin facility where Mac Pro has been made since 2013. Apple said it will manufacture Mac Pro locally due to a "federal product exclusion" the company is receiving for "certain necessary components."

In July, U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly refused to grant Apple a waiver on tariffs for Mac Pro computer parts made in China. Apple CEO Tim Cook on July 30 said the company has been making the Mac Pro in the U.S. and wants "to continue doing that."

The tech giant introduced a new Mac Pro, along with a new privacy-focused next-generation mobile operating system, at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
