Snap CEO: Spectacles sales exceed internal expectations

Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel said the company has sold about 150,000 units of its Spectacles smart glasses since launch, exceeding internal expectations, reported Oct. 3.

At an event, Spiegel said Snap sold more Spectacles than Apple Inc. sold iPods in their first year. The iPhone maker sold roughly 143,000 units during the first full year of the iPod’s availability. Spiegel said the sunglasses are a way to help Snap build the required expertise in the hardware field.

On investors being "fearful," Spiegel said that was understandable since "those are kind of normal fears for any startup — and the really successful companies just grow through that. And that's why we've just tried to stay focused on the business this year and execute and deliver results."
