White House official: Facebook, Microsoft thwart North Korean cyber actions

Tom Bossert, homeland security adviser at the White House, claimed that Facebook Inc. and Microsoft Corp. thwarted a number of cyberattacks by the North Koreans in the week of Dec. 11, Reuters reported Dec. 19.

The comments came as the U.S. government accused North Korea of carrying out the "WannaCry" cyberattack in May that affected hospitals, banks and other companies.

While Bossert did not share details of those actions, he asked companies to cooperate with the government in dealing with cyberattacks.
