Investor confidence weakened across the world in August amidst slowing global economic growth and political unrest, according to the State Street Investor Confidence Index released by State Street Global Markets.
The Global Investor Confidence Index fell to 75.9, down 8.7 points from July's revised reading of 84.6. The North American ICI dropped to 72.5 from 80.3, while the European ICI fell to 89.0 from 98.6, and the Asian ICI weakened to 89.2 from 91.8.
"In August, institutional investor sentiment declined once more against a backdrop of downside risks to the economy, increased political uncertainty in Italy, and the possibility of a hard Brexit," said Rajeev Bhargava, managing director and head of investor behavior research, State Street Associates.
Investors are also concerned about volatile trade and monetary policy, and expressed risk aversion amid heightened financial volatility and yield curve inversion, he said.
