Afritin Mining outlines maiden 95,539-tonne tin resource at Uis mine

Afritin Mining Ltd. outlined an initial Australasian Joint Ore Reserves Committee, or JORC, code resource estimate for its 85%-owned Uis tin mine in Namibia, comprising 95,539 tonnes of tin contained within 71.5 million tonnes grading 0.134% tin.

The company said Sept. 16 that it will move the phase-one mining operation toward a phase-two expansion.

Uis hosts 21.5 Mt at 0.139% tin in the measured category, 13.1 Mt at 0.136% tin in the indicated category, and 37 Mt at 0.130% tin in the inferred category.

The property also hosts inferred resources of 71.5 Mt grading 85 parts per million tantalum for 6,091 tonnes of contained tantalum, and 71.5 Mt grading 0.63% lithium oxide for 450,265 tonnes of contained lithium oxide, which are spatially coincident to the tin resource, according to the company.

Resources were estimated using data from exploration drilling that focused on validating historical data from 128 percussion drillholes and 13 diamond drillholes.

In August, Afritin produced the first tin concentrate at Uis and entered a one-year tin off-take agreement with Thailand Smelting & Refining Co. Ltd.
