Honda US light truck sales hit all-time high in August

The U.S. arm of Honda Motor Co. Ltd. posted "all-time" record sales of its light trucks and electrified vehicles in August, the company said Sept. 4.

American Honda's total car sales in August grew 1.3% year over year.

The Honda Pilot led the surge in light truck sales with 15,332 units sold, rising 60% in August year over year and representing a 41.3% increase for the year-to-date.

Total sales of the Acura brand rose 14.8% year over year, although within that brand, car sales fell 22.8 % while truck sales rose 30.8%.

Electric versions of the Accord Hybrid, Insight Hybrid and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid breached the 5,000-unit mark for the second consecutive month, setting a best-ever record, the company said.

Total import car sales increased 53.3% in August compared with August 2017.

American Honda Automobile Division senior vice president Henio Arcangeli Jr. said increased light truck production continues to benefit the company.
