Sempra acquires 2 transmission lines in Chile from AES for $225.5M

Sempra Energy's Chilean electric subsidiary, Chilquinta Energia SA, acquired 100% ownership of two regulated transmission lines in central and northern Chile for approximately $225.5 million in cash from AES Corp.

Chilquinta Energia acquired the Compañía Transmisora del Norte Grande SA assets from AES Gener SA The transmission portfolio includes a 114-mile, 110-kV transmission line and substations in the central Valparaiso-Santiago region and an 82-mile, 220-kV transmission line in the northern Antofagasta region.

"These transmission assets will expand our presence in the region and enhance our portfolio of reliable electric infrastructure that serves our customers in Chile," Sempra Energy Group President Dennis Arriola said in a Dec. 20 release. "Additionally, this acquisition fits with our business focus on owning and operating utility infrastructure with a transmission-and-distribution risk profile."

Chilquinta Energia and its affiliates serve more than 600,000 customers in the central and southern regions of Chile.
