Canadian Solar Inc. won three solar power projects, totaling 393.7 megawatt peak, in two recent private corporate auctions in Brazil.
"This win demonstrates our long-term commitment to solar energy in Brazil and is the first step to initiate investment in the Brazilian Corporate Power Purchase Agreements market," said Chairman and CEO Shawn Qu in an Oct. 10 statement.
The company expects to start construction of the 190.5-MWp project in the state of Pernambuco and the 76.2-MWp in the state of Ceará in 2021. Both projects will reach commercial operation before the end of 2022 and will sell most of their output to COPEL Energia under two 15-year contracts.
Canadian Solar anticipates the other 127-MWp project in the state of Minas Gerais will reach commercial operation before January 2023. Most of the project's output will be bought by an unnamed electric utility under a long-term power purchase agreement.
