Tata Steel posts YOY increases in Q4, FY'17 steel output, sales

Tata Steel Ltd.'s salable steel production totaled 3.11 million tonnes in its fourth fiscal quarter of 2017, up year over year from 2.55 million tonnes, the company said April 1.

Crude steel output in the period also increased to 3.21 million tonnes, from 2.56 million tonnes in the year-ago period, while hot metal output was up at 3.52 million tonnes, compared to 2.71 million tonnes in the fourth fiscal quarter of last year.

Tata's quarterly sales improved to 3.18 million tonnes, compared with 2.72 million tonnes a year earlier.

Full-year salable steel production increased to 11.34 million tonnes, from 9.70 million tonnes a year ago, while sales climbed to 10.94 million tonnes from 9.54 million tonnes.

Hot metal production, meanwhile, came in at 13.06 million tonnes, up from 10.66 million tonnes a year earlier, and crude steel output rose to 11.69 million tonnes from 9.96 million tonnes.

Additionally, the company noted that the blast furnaces at its Jamshedpur plant achieved the best-ever hot metal production of 10.83 million tonnes in the full fiscal year.
