Enel secures power contracts, starts work on 300-MW wind farm in Kansas

Enel Green Power North America started work on the proposed 300-MW Diamond Vista wind farm, according to a March 6 company release.

The Enel SpA subsidiary acquired the wind facility from its long-term strategic development partner, TradeWind Energy Inc. The $400 million project will be built in Marion and Dickinson counties in Kansas and is expected to boost Enel's operational wind capacity in the state to 1,400 MW upon completion by the end of this year.

Diamond Vista will supply 100 MW to manufacturing company Kohler Co. Inc., 100 MW to City Utilities of Springfield, and 84 MW to Tri-County Electric Cooperative of Oklahoma, under bundled, long-term power purchase agreements.

The facility will generate electricity for Kohler's U.S. and Canadian operations and will help reduce Kohler's greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25%.
