Meituan Dianping posted job listings for game developers, indicating that the Chinese food delivery giant is preparing to enter the video gaming segment, South China Morning Post reported.
The Tencent Holdings Ltd.-backed company reportedly posted ads on Chinese online recruitment platforms, with positions open for coders, art designers and producers.
Wang Huiwen, co-founder and senior vice president of Meituan, confirmed the plan but downplayed it.
"I’m just giving it a try, don't overthink it," he said.
The move comes shortly after Meituan Dianping formed partnerships with international companies such as NVIDIA Corp., developer of the GeForce gaming platform.
In September 2018, Meituan raised US$4.2 billion in its Hong Kong initial public offering.
