Authorities file arrest warrant for KEB Hana Bank CEO over hiring scandal

South Korean authorities are seeking the arrest of KEB Hana Bank CEO Ham Young-joo over irregular hiring practices, Yonhap News Agency reported May 30, citing prosecution officials.

The prosecution has filed for an arrest warrant for the bank executive after the country's Financial Supervisory Service uncovered at least 32 suspected cases of hiring irregularities in April.

According to the watchdog's findings, 32 out of 229 job applicants gained an unfair advantage that led to their employment, with 16 of them receiving private recommendations by senior staff members of KEB Hana Bank as well as top executives in the country's financial sector.

In March, Choe Heung-sik, then head of the FSS, stepped down amid allegations he was involved in irregular hiring practices during his tenure as president of KEB Hana Bank's parent, Hana Financial Group Inc.
