Uni-President Enterprises H1 profit climbs YOY

Uni-President Enterprises Corp. posted higher net income in the first half of 2018 as its segments posted year-over-year increases in revenue.

The Taiwanese packaged foods company's net income attributable to equity holders in the first half rose 6.49% year over year to NT$9.77 billion, or NT$1.72 per share, from NT$9.18 billion, or NT$1.61 per share, in the year-ago period.

Total revenue climbed 9.39% to NT$214.65 billion from NT$196.22 billion in the prior-year period.

The company's CVS and other retail segment, which accounted for nearly half of total revenue, saw a 6.80% year-over-year increase in revenue to NT$102.55 billion. The container and packaging segment's revenue grew 17.51% to NT$11.82 billion. Revenue from its others segment, which includes financial and pharmaceutical businesses, went up by 24.90%.

First-half operating profit grew 24.51% to NT$14.85 billion from NT$11.93 billion in the year-ago period.

As of Aug. 14, US$1 was equivalent to NT$30.84.
