Duke Energy Renewables, Sprint ink virtual power contract for Texas wind project

Duke Energy Renewables LLC signed a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement with communications services company Sprint Corp. for 173.3 MW of the planned 182-MW Maryneal wind project in Nolan County, Texas.

Construction of the project is expected to begin in early 2020, with a target operational date by December 2020. Upon completion, the project would increase Duke Energy Renewables' U.S. wind capacity to more than 3,000 MW.

The power contract will aid Sprint in reducing its carbon emissions and attain approximately 30% renewable generation for its entire electricity portfolio.

Nordex Acciona will supply 38 wind turbines for the project, each with a capacity of 4.8 MW.

Duke Energy Renewables is a commercial business unit of Duke Energy Corp.
