Acciona wins contract to build waste-to-energy plant in Scotland

Spain's Acciona SA has been awarded a €400 million contract to design, construct and operate a waste-to-energy plant in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The Ness Energy Project will have capacity to treat 150,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per year, according to an Aug. 12 news release.

The project is part of Scotland's plan to ban waste going into landfills starting 2021. It will generate electricity for the National Grid and heating for households in the Torry district.

Acciona said the project will be regulated by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
