Google job listings tool under scrutiny from EU

European job search portals have urged the European Commission to compel Google LLC to remove its job listings tool from its search engine while the authority investigates, Reuters reported.

The 23 websites, including the U.K.'s Best Jobs Online and Germany's Intermedia and Jobindex, claim the Alphabet Inc. unit is abusing its market dominance by placing a large job listings widget on top of its search results.

The job-finding services want EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager to temporarily order Google to refrain from playing unfairly while she continues looking into the matter. They could pursue formal complaints against the tech giant if no action is taken, a source told Reuters.

Berlin-based job website operator StepStone GmbH and another German search service have already filed complaints against Google, another source said.

The Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice refused to confirm whether Google's job search tool is included in their probe into online competition in the U.S. The DOJ is initially looking into the company's digital advertising and search operations.
