Finland appoints world's youngest prime minister

Finland's Sanna Marin is set to become the world's youngest serving prime minister after the Social Democratic Party elected her as head of the country's ruling coalition government, the Financial Times reported.

During a party council on Dec. 8, the Social Democratic Party selected Marin, the 34-year-old transport and communications minister, as successor to Prime Minister Antti Rinne, who resigned last week after one of his coalition partners, the Center Party, withdrew its support due to his handling of a labor strike at the state postal company.

All parties in the five-party governing coalition are now led by women, of which four are in their thirties, according to the Financial Times.
