Cloud Peak Energy Inc. on July 26 reported a net loss of $29.9 million, or 39 cents per share, in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $6.9 million, or 9 cents per share, in the prior-year period.
The S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized earnings estimate for the second quarter was a loss of 14 cents per share. Revenue was $205.7 million, compared with $229.2 million a year earlier.
The company sold 11.6 million tons of coal in the quarter, compared with 14.3 million tons in the prior-year quarter. The average sales price was $12.18 per ton, compared with $12.25 in the same quarter a year earlier.
