Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended July 1 amounted to a loss of 10 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of a loss of 20 cents per share.
The per-share loss narrowed 58.5% year over year from 25 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was a loss of $1.6 million, compared with a loss of $3.9 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin rose to negative 2.1% from negative 5.2% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue rose on an annual basis to $77.2 million from $75.1 million, and total operating expenses fell from the prior-year period to $79.8 million from $81.4 million.
Reported net income totaled a loss of $1.6 million, or a loss of 10 cents per share, compared to a loss of $4.3 million, or a loss of 28 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.
