September gas flows to US LNG plants climb despite maintenance

Total daily natural gas flows to U.S. LNG export plants spiked in September, even as the Sempra Energy-led Cameron LNG terminal worked to fix a compressor problem and Dominion Energy Inc. Dominion Energy Inc.'s Cove Point LNG facility started scheduled maintenance late in the month. Average daily gas flows in September to the four major U.S. LNG terminals that are shipping commercial cargoes amounted to nearly 5.02 Bcf/d, up from nearly 4.36 Bcf/d in August, according to pipeline flow data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

FERC clears Elba Island LNG export terminal to enter commercial service

Kinder Morgan Inc. received authorization from federal regulators for the Elba Island LNG export terminal in Georgia to start commercial operations. Elba Island LNG will have an LNG production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum when all of its modular trains are online, making it the smallest of the six major U.S. LNG export facilities in existence today.

FERC approves Plaquemines LNG export terminal

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved Venture Global LNG's proposed Plaquemines LNG export facility and the associated Gator Express pipeline project in a party-line vote Sept. 30. The Plaquemines LNG terminal would be built along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, La., with a nameplate LNG production capacity of about 20 million tonnes per annum. The Gator Express pipeline system would include two parallel 42-inch-diameter laterals that connect to the terminal.

Total completes acquisition of Anadarko's stake in Mozambique LNG project

Total SA closed its acquisition of Anadarko Petroleum Corp.'s stake and operatorship of the Mozambique liquefied natural gas project for $3.9 billion, which is part of Total's $8.8 billion purchase of African assets from Occidental Petroleum Corp. The Mozambique project involves building two trains with a capacity of 12.9 million tonnes per year and developing the Golfinho and Atum fields in offshore area 1 for its resource. The trains will develop 18 Tcf of area 1, which contains more than 60 Tcf of gas resources.

Magnolia LNG expansion passes additional environmental review

LNG Ltd.'s plan to boost the production capacity of its proposed Magnolia LNG LLC export terminal in Louisiana cleared an additional environmental review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Magnolia LNG project would be built in Calcasieu Parish, La. The developer sought the capacity expansion of 0.8 mtpa in November 2018, telling FERC that the uplift would not require additional construction or facility modifications beyond what the commission had already approved.

West Delta LNG seeks approval for 6.1-mtpa export facility offshore Louisiana

West Delta LNG has asked the U.S. Maritime Administration for permission to build a deepwater port, including a six-train LNG export terminal with total optimal capacity of up to 6.1 million tonnes per annum. The project, which would be located about 12 miles offshore Plaquemines Parish, La., would join a slew of U.S. Gulf Coast LNG exports proposed to enter service in the mid-2020s.

Novatek inks deal to build LNG transshipment complexes

PAO Novatek signed a cooperation agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation to build marine LNG transshipment complexes in Kamchatka and Murmansk, which will help aid LNG delivery from the Yamal and Gydan projects in Russia. Novatek's chairman of the management board, Leonid Mikhelson, said the parties expect to reach final arrangements for the projects by year-end, according to a Sept. 26 news release from Novatek.
