New RFPs
* National Grid distribution utility Narragansett Electric Co. on issued a request for power supply proposals for standard offer service in Rhode Island. Interested bidders should submit their respondent proposal information by 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 22.
* Private developer Empire State Connector Corp. has initiated an open solicitation process for interested parties to reserve space on its 265-mile, 1,000-MW Empire State Connector high-voltage, direct-current transmission line from upstate New York to New York City. Nonbinding expressions of interest will be accepted until Dec. 22.
Update
* Central Maine Power Co. is adamant that its proposed 1,200-MW New England Clean Energy Connect transmission project will save ratepayers more than $600 million compared with competing bids responding to Massachusetts' clean energy request for proposals. CMP is a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc.
* The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved the results of AEP Ohio's wholesale auction, which will ultimately determine the American Electric Power Co. Inc. utility's default generation rates, starting June 1, 2018.
Deadline
* Heartland Consumers Power District will accept standard response forms until Dec. 18 for its reverse request for proposal to sell its share of the output of the Laramie River power plant and three energy products related to the facility.
* Proposal for AEP Ohio's solicitation for up to 400 MW of solar energy resources are due Dec. 18. AEP Ohio is legally known as Ohio Power Co.
Award
* The government of Alberta said it has awarded contracts for about 600 MW of renewable energy capacity in an auction that will bring about C$1 billion in investment to the province.
* Appalachian Power Co. selected Pasadena, Calif.-headquartered Coronal Energy to build and operate a 15-MW photovoltaic solar power facility in Rustburg, Va., following its request for proposals for up to 25 MW of utility-scale solar projects within its Virginia or West Virginia service territory.
* Bay Area Rapid Transit signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for 45 MW of power from Recurrent Energy LLC's planned RE Gaskell West 2 solar project in Kern County, Calif. The PPA is the result of a renewable energy procurement process launched by the metro-rail entity in May. Recurrent Energy is a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc.
* Ontario will add two energy storage projects from Hecate Energy Ltd. and Saturn Power Inc. to its electricity grid for reserve power during sudden spikes in demand. The two battery storage proposals were among 42 submitted in the grid operator's call for 350 MW of regulation capacity, said the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator.

* FirstEnergy Corp. utilities in Pennsylvania have filed plans with the state Public Utility Commission to procure electric generation supply beginning June 2019. The first auction will be held between Oct. 20 and Nov. 20, 2018, with others scheduled in January, April and June of 2019.
