Bayerische Motoren Werke AG CFO Nicolas Peter is looking to ax between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs by 2022, Reuters reported Sept. 19, citing Germany's Manager Magazin.
Majority of the potential job cuts will be at the German carmaker's Munich headquarters, the news wire said.
The report comes as the company undergoes a shakeup of top managers, according to Reuters. Manager Magazin reportedly said Ilka Horstmeier was tipped to become the new human resources head after Milagros Caiña Carreiro-Andree, the board member in charge of human resources, decided not to seek a new term, citing personal reasons.
Meanwhile, Milan Nedeljkovic is reportedly expected to take over as production head, a role that was vacated after Oliver Zipse took over as BMW CEO when Harald Krueger stepped down in August.
BMW declined to comment, Reuters said.
