Report: Fire at Texas petrochemicals plant spreads to 8 tanks

A Deer Park, Texas petrochemicals plant, operated by Intercontinental Terminals Company LLC, was still on fire early March 18, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The fire, which began March 17, burned overnight and has spread to eight tanks.

The chemicals in most of the tanks are used in the production of finished gasoline and base oil used in machine lubricants, while one tank is used in the production of nail polish remover, glues and paint thinner.

Two tanks contained Naptha and Xylene, which produce poisonous gases when exposed to a fire.

ITC said the air quality readings in the area are currently below hazardous levels.
