The North Carolina Utilities Commission has approved Duke Energy Corp.'s "Green Source Advantage" program for large energy users to secure renewable power.
The program allows large energy users to select and negotiate price terms directly with a renewable power supplier, including the purchase of renewable energy certificates, according to an Aug. 21 news release. The customer and renewable developer can also negotiate contract length.
Duke Energy Carolinas LLC and Duke Energy Progress LLC are offering 600 MW under the program, with 100 MW reserved for military installations and 250 MW set aside for University of North Carolina institutions. The remaining 250 MW is available for large nonresidential customers, with 160 MW for Duke Energy Carolinas customers and 90 MW for Duke Energy Progress.
The application window for the program opens Oct. 1. Interested applicants can visit duke-energy.com/ncgreensource for details.
