Steel Authority of India Ltd., or SAIL, resumed production at its Barsua iron mine in India's Odisha state May 20 after a four-year hiatus, The Economic Times of India reported the following day.
The mine has a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum and primarily supplies iron ore to the Rourkela and Bokaro steel plants. Its resumption is expected to help SAIL achieve a 2018-2019 production target of 24.5 million tonnes for its iron ore mines in Odisha and Jharkhand.
Barsua's operations were halted in 2014 due to certain legal issues, but according to the report, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of SAIL, allowing the company to reopen the mine.
