Qualcomm files suits to ban iPhone manufacturing, sale in China

Qualcomm Inc. has filed lawsuits against Apple Inc. in China in an attempt to block the smartphone maker's manufacturing and sale of iPhones in the country, Bloomberg News reported Oct. 13.

The San Diego-based chipmaker filed the lawsuits in a Beijing intellectual property court on Sept. 29. The company claimed Apple infringed on three of its non-standard essential patents, which cover power management and a touch-screen technology called Force Touch that Apple uses in iPhones, the report quoted Qualcomm spokeswoman Christine Trimble as saying.

Qualcomm has filed a similar patent infringement complaint against Apple in the U.S. and another one against the Cupertino, Calif.-based company's contract manufacturers in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Apple sued Qualcomm earlier this year over its alleged "abusive licensing model."
