Northern Indiana Public Service Co. issued a request for proposals for a combination of potential resources to meet future electricity demand.
The NiSource Inc. subsidiary will consider dispatchable and semidispatchable generation, renewables, demand response resources and contractual arrangements as well as emerging technologies such as storage. The request for proposals is in consideration of the company's goal of retiring 50% of its coal-fired electric generation by 2023, with its Bailly facility on track to retire by the end of May.
The utility's current generation portfolio includes natural gas and coal, hydroelectric generation, purchased wind power, customer-owned renewable generation, demand response, energy efficiency and other purchased power.
Proposals are due June 29.
