Hawkstone Mining Ltd. estimated a maiden mineral resource for the Big Sandy lithium project in Arizona of 60,300 tonnes contained lithium metal and 320,800 tonnes contained lithium carbonate equivalent within 32.5 million tonnes grading 1,850 parts per million above an 800 ppm lithium cutoff at the indicated and inferred categories,
The company said Sept. 26 that the maiden mineral resource was delivered 14 months after first drilling commenced at the project, and that the area drilled for the resource calculation represents a mere 4% of the landholding of the project.
The resource includes a higher-grade zone of 12.7 million tonnes grading 2,360 ppm lithium above a cut-off of 2,000 ppm lithium for 159,500 tonnes LCE, representing 49% of the total LCE.
Hawkstone said that it is planning for further drilling targeting blocks B and C in the northern mineralized zone, which remains open to the north, south, and west, to expand the mineral resource.
The company has appointed a Phoenix-based engineer to start an examination of the key development elements leading to the commencement of a prefeasibility study.
