Ørsted A/S installed the last of the 56 wind turbines in the 450-MW offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2 in the German North Sea.
The installation of the turbines started in May and was completed earlier than expected, according to a Sept. 3 company news release.
At the start of August, the first system reached operation and successfully supplied power into the grid, while the remaining systems are slated to connect to the grid by the end of the year.
The final completion and commercial commissioning of the Borkum Riffgrund is expected to occur in 2019. The facility is projected to provide enough power for 460,000 German households.
