Argex Titanium Inc. said June 13 that, after further optimization of its titanium dioxide pigment production process, it will increase the capacity of its planned technology center in Canada to 5,000 tonnes per year.
In early April, the company announced an increase in the capacity to 3,000 t/y, with construction to start upon the confirmation of funding. Argex is targeting 2020 to achieve commercial production.
In its latest release, Argex said recent optimizations will enable the generation of four salable byproducts, instead of one as previously expected. Optimizations included engineering work and validation of the ability to use ilmenite ore in its process.
The company aims to source ore from its Lac Brule property in Quebec, with further analysis underway and results anticipated shortly.
