Report: Volkswagen to recall around 227,000 cars over airbag, seatbelt problems

Volkswagen AG is recalling around 227,000 vehicles under the Volkswagen and Porsche brands due to airbag and seatbelt problems, Reuters reported Sept. 19, citing a report from German-language newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung.

The recall includes Volkswagen Tiguan, Sharan and CC models made in 2015, as well as Porsche 911, Boxter, Cayman and Panamera models built in 2015 and 2016, according to the report.

A Porsche spokesperson reportedly said that the airbag and seatbelt pre-tensioners in the affected vehicles could be triggered even if the vehicle is not involved in an accident.

Around 3,900 of the 23,500 affected Porsche units were in Germany, the news outlet added.
