Entergy closes sale of Pilgrim nuclear plant to Holtec International

Entergy Corp. has completed the sale of the retired Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station to a Holtec International Inc. subsidiary.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the transfer of the licenses on Aug. 22. The Pilgrim plant started operating in Plymouth County, Mass., in 1972, and was permanently shut down on May 31. Holtec International will be responsible for completing major decommissioning at the Pilgrim site.

"The successful Pilgrim transaction demonstrates continued progress on Entergy's exit from merchant power markets," said Entergy Chairman and CEO Leo Denault.
