Toyota Motor Corp. on Sept. 17 said it will invest an additional $391 million in its truck assembly plant in San Antonio.
The move is in line with the Japanese automaker's commitment to invest $13 billion in its U.S. operations by 2021, according to the release.
Toyota plans to use the fund to make the plant more efficient and flexible with multi-vehicle production through advanced manufacturing technologies.
The San Antonio facility produces full-size Tundra and mid-size Tacoma pickup trucks and directly employs more than 3,200 workers.
Once the new investment is completed, Toyota said the plant's total investment will exceed $3 billion.
In the same release, Toyota said its supplier Aisin AW will also invest $400 million and create 900 new jobs in an upcoming facility in Cibolo, Texas.
