German online retailer Zalando SE is trialing Zircle, a second-hand shop for women's clothing that were purchased from Zalando Wardrobe customers.
Zircle is a portmanteau of Zalando and the word "circle," as the company seeks to promote a circular supply chain.
"The goal of this experiment is to learn how offline selling of second-hand fashion works for Zalando and find out if we can reach new customers," a Zalando spokeswoman told S&P Global Market Intelligence in an emailed statement. "With these learnings we can then evaluate what works best for our customers and improve their shopping and selling experience."
Retail Detail Europe earlier reported that Zalando's first Zircle concept store opened in the Alexa shopping centre in the German capital of Berlin. The news outlet said the shop offers second-hand women's clothing that are still in good condition for either €3, €5 or €7.
The latest sustainable fashion initiative follows the launch of the Zalando Wardrobe app, where customers can sell their used clothes to Zalando itself or to other users of the platform.
The Zalando spokeswoman told Market Intelligence that through Zalando Wardrobe, the company aims "to extend the life cycle of customers' clothes."
