Amazon details benefits of building NY headquarters in open letter Inc. is ramping up efforts to reassure skeptical New Yorkers of the benefits their city and its residents stand to gain from the e-commerce retailer's decision to build one of its new headquarters in Long Island City in New York City's Queens borough.

Amazon penned an open letter reiterating its pledge to, among other things, bring 25,000 jobs to the city over the next 10 years, donate a site for a new public school, provide career training for local residents and bring in more than $27 billion in state and local tax revenue.

The company added that it plans to make available to New Yorkers its Amazon Future Engineer program, a comprehensive childhood-to-career program aiming to inspire, educate, and train children and young adults from underserved and low-income communities to build careers in science, technology, engineering, math and computer science.

A poll by Quinnipiac University conducted Nov. 27-Dec. 4, 2018, found that although 57% of the 1,075 New York City voters approved of Amazon building a headquarters in Long Island City, voters were split on the $3 billion in city and state incentives Amazon will reportedly receive, with 46% supporting the incentives and 44% opposed.
