Severstal invests in digital automation for advanced composites manufacturing

PAO Severstal said Jan. 21 that it invested in Dutch company Airborne for the latter to examine the potential of integrated solutions based on composites and steel of the Russian firm.

According to Severstal, Airborne has developed a set of digital technologies that increase the efficiency of carbon fiber composite production by process automation.

Severstal noted that using automation cell technology can help cut the cost of producing composite products and their development while ensuring quality at a high production speed.

Severstal said that it will offer its clients the opportunity to test the integrated solutions.

The steel firm said that Airborne is in the process of commercializing its automated production cells and software.

Severstal joins other investors in the investment round, including Pangaea Ventures and SABIC.
