Fannie Mae appoints former FDIC chief to board

Fannie Mae named former Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chair Sheila Bair to its board Aug. 20.

Bair was FDIC chair from 2006 to 2011. She also previously held various other government positions such as commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and assistant secretary for financial institutions at the U.S. Treasury Department.

Bair also is chair emerita of the Systemic Risk Council, a public interest group that monitors progress on financial reform implementation, and sits on the board of the Volcker Alliance, a group formed by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker in 2013.
