Dollar Tree appoints COO

Dollar Tree Inc. said Dec. 11 that it promoted Thomas O'Boyle Jr. to COO of the group, effective immediately.

O'Boyle has been COO of the discount store operator's Family Dollar Inc. unit since October 2017. He replaces Michael Witynski, who has been promoted to enterprise president of Dollar Tree.

Witynski will be in charge of merchandising, store operations, and supply chain functions for the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar businesses, while O'Boyle will focus on optimizing the group's real estate, improving customer experience and addressing recent issues surrounding the shrink in inventory. Witynski will report to Dollar Tree CEO Gary Philbin, while O'Boyle will report to Witynski.

The company also said Richard McNeely has also been promoted to chief merchandising officer of the group. He will focus on improving enterprise-wide merchandising margins and will report to Witynski.
