Airbus secures provisional order for 100 jets from Spirit Airlines

U.S. budget carrier Spirit Airlines Inc. signd a memorandum of understanding to purchase 100 Airbus SE A320neo family aircraft.

The provisional deal includes a mix of the European planemaker's A319neo, A320neo and A321neo models, which will be delivered through 2027. It also involves an option for up to 50 additional jets.

Reuters estimated the potential order to be worth $11 billion to $12 billion based on 2018 list prices, though industry sources told the publication that such agreements are often discounted by at least 50%.

The agreement is Airbus' first tentative order from a U.S. client since Washington applied a 10% tariff on large civil aircraft imported from the EU last week.
